We went to see Pan's Labyrinth tonight - wow! This movie managed to exceed my expectations, and I was already thinking it was going to be good.

It was a one hour and 50 minute trip to Spain, around the time of D-Day. The movie was subtitled, but this was no great hurdle for any of the three of us.. The spoken language was Spanish, by the way.

This movie is wonderful, but I do give you warning. This is more of a fairy tale of olden times. The magics involved are wonderful, but wild; these are not your fail-safe rituals and such. Also, the part of the movie that deals with the mortal world has it's fill of darkness. There are fight scenes, and a few torture scenes, as well as one amputation. All these scenes are handled well, though, as they give you fair warning of what's going to happen (time to close your eyes) and cut away and back with minimal gore. (No exaggerated bloody scenes) There is definite violence, but the setting should give away that this is a certainty.

All and all, I recommend this movie. It was a wonderful show, and I plan to buy it on DvD as soon as I can.
